Sport and hobbies
Jugar a for sports: juego al fútbol / al tenis / al baloncesto (a + el = al).
Tocar for instruments: toco la guitarra / el piano / la batería (the drums).
Hacer for some activities: hago natación (I swim), hago equitación (I go horse riding), hago senderismo (I go hiking). Monto en bici (I ride my bike).
Leo novelas / cómics / revistas (magazines). Veo series. Escucho música. Salgo con mis amigos (I go out with my friends). Voy al cine.
Mi pasatiempo favorito es… (my favourite hobby is…). No tengo tiempo para… (I don't have time to…).
How often, and opinions
todos los días (every day), los fines de semana (at weekends), a menudo (often), a veces (sometimes), de vez en cuando (from time to time), una vez a la semana (once a week), nunca (never).
Me gusta + a singular noun or an infinitive (me gusta el fútbol, me gusta nadar). Me gustan + a plural noun (me gustan los deportes). Me encanta (I love), odio (I hate), prefiero (I prefer).
En el restaurante: quisiera… / para mí… (I'd like… / for me…), de primer plato / de segundo / de postre (as a starter / main course / dessert), la cuenta, por favor (the bill, please).
el pollo (chicken), el pescado (fish), las patatas fritas (chips), las verduras (vegetables), el queso (cheese), la tarta (cake), soy vegetariano/a.
Tengo hambre (I'm hungry) and tengo sed (I'm thirsty) use tener.
Past and future
El fin de semana pasado fui al cine y vi una película de acción (last weekend I went to the cinema and saw an action film).
Preterite: jugué (I played), vi (I saw), fui (I went / I was), hice (I did), leí (I read), salí (I went out).
Imperfect for what used to happen: cuando era pequeño/a, jugaba al fútbol (when I was little, I used to play football).
Near future for plans: el fin de semana que viene voy a jugar al tenis (next weekend I'm going to play tennis).
