How to revise for KS3 tests

Little and often

Twenty minutes a few times a week beats a long session the night before. Pick one topic, read the notes, then test yourself with the flashcards and quiz.

Test yourself

Trying to remember something is what makes it stick. Cover your notes and write down what you know, use flashcards, and do the practice questions without looking. Then check what you missed.

Build towards GCSE

KS3 topics come back at GCSE, from fractions and algebra to cells, atoms and forces. Learning them well now makes Years 10 and 11 much easier. When you’re ready, look at the GCSE courses to see what comes next.

Questions about KS3 revision

What is KS3?
Key Stage 3 covers Years 7, 8 and 9, for students aged 11 to 14. You study the national curriculum in most subjects before choosing your GCSE options.
Is LycoLearn free for KS3?
Yes. Notes, key terms, flashcards and practice questions for every KS3 topic are free with an account, and you can try a topic first without one.
Do KS3 tests matter?
End-of-year tests help your teachers see what you know and can guide sets and GCSE choices. More importantly, KS3 topics are the foundations of GCSE, so learning them well now makes Years 10 and 11 much easier.
How should I revise for KS3 tests?
Little and often. Read a topic’s notes, then test yourself with flashcards and quizzes rather than rereading. Go back to topics a few days and a week later, and practise the questions you got wrong.
Does it follow my school’s units?
KS3 Science follows the units taught in Guernsey’s secondary schools, and the other subjects follow the national curriculum for England. If your school teaches topics in a different order, just pick the topic you’re on.
