Subjects and opinions
- Mathe, Englisch, Deutsch, Französisch, Naturwissenschaften (science), Geschichte (history), Erdkunde (geography), Informatik (computing), Kunst (art), Musik, Sport (PE), Theater (drama).
- Ich mag Mathe (I like maths). Ich finde Deutsch… interessant, einfach (easy), nützlich (useful), langweilig (boring), schwierig (difficult).
- Mein Lieblingsfach ist Kunst (my favourite subject is art), weil es Spaß macht (because it's fun). After weil, the verb goes to the end.
Time and days
- Es ist neun Uhr (9:00), Viertel nach neun (9:15), Viertel vor zehn (9:45).
- Careful: halb zehn means 9:30, half an hour before ten.
- Die Schule beginnt um halb neun (school starts at 8:30).
- Days are nouns, so they have capital letters: Montag, Dienstag, Mittwoch, Donnerstag, Freitag, Samstag, Sonntag. Am Montag means on Monday.
School things and people
- der Kuli (pen), der Bleistift (pencil), das Heft (exercise book), das Buch (book), das Lineal (ruler), die Tasche (bag).
- der Lehrer (male teacher), die Lehrerin (female teacher). Ich trage eine Uniform (I wear a uniform).
