Component 2: Dance appreciation
- The written exam lasts 1 hour 30 minutes, is worth 80 marks and 40% of the GCSE.
- It covers knowledge of choreographic processes and performing skills, critical appreciation of your own work, and critical appreciation of the anthology.
Writing about dance
- Describe: what you see, using precise dance vocabulary (actions, space, dynamics and relationships).
- Analyse: how the movement and production features create meaning.
- Interpret: what the dance communicates, and how it makes the audience feel.
- Evaluate: how successful it is, with reasons.
Writing about your own work
- Explain your choreographic intention and how your choices (motifs, devices, structure) communicated it.
- Explain how you used performance skills and how you improved them through rehearsal and feedback.
